After the tour, we take you to our tasting room where we sample different rums that Wicked Dolphin offers and some new ones we are working on.
Few things are more sacred in Southwest Florida than the sunset. The Sunset Celebration at the Cape Coral Yacht Club has grown to become quite a popular place to be the first Wednesday of each month. You will often find entertainment, artists and food vendors together in celebration of the area's amazing sunsets.
Walking the 2.5 miles of paved and unpaved paths at Lakes Park is free but if you have a few extra dollars there are boat and bike rentals too. The small water park is free for kids to cool off and concessions are available. Check out the Miniature Railroad offering a 15-minute ride past a small scale village. Hurricane Irma took a toll but you'll still see exotic vegetation and the occasional alligator in the 158 acres of freshwater quarry lakes; fishing is allowed. The park is also home to many cultural and music festivals and a seasonal Farmers Market on Friday mornings.
Since 1884, this stunning structure has been guiding ships into port along Florida's west coast and it's still fully functional today. You can see the beaming beacon from the shores of Fort Myers Beach. While the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, visitors are permitted to tour the grounds and read about its history. There is a pier for fishing and lots of white sand for walking and shelling. The nearly 100-foot tall lighthouse is the most photographed site on Sanibel Island.
The Downtown River District of Fort Myers really comes alive during the monthly Art Walk and Music Walk events. Art Walk is held the first Friday of each month, where from 6-10 p.m. Galleries, museums and shops stay open late, with special exhibits and activities. There's even a free trolley to take you to shops and galleries outside the immediate downtown area. While some shops have live entertainment during Art Walk, the music takes center stage on the third Friday of each month for Music Walk. Starting at 7 p.m. performers and bands take to the streets and dozens of venues, playing jazz, rock and roll, top 40 and everything in between. Many shops and galleries offer wine, while bars and restaurants often sell drinks from booths set up on the sidewalk in front of their establishments.
There is so much water in the Fort Myers area but there is only one, true water park. Explore more than fourteen acres of water slides, pools and activities at Sun Splash Family Water Park. Kids go crazy for the adrenaline pumping speed slides and others that allow you to free fall through a five-and-a-half story drop. If that's too much excitement, grab a float and peacefully bob down the Main Stream River Ride. There is a Tot Spot for the little ones and plenty of chairs for mom and dad to stretch out in the sun. Food and concessions are available and lots of special deals are offered throughout the summer.
Once a collection of secluded barrier islands reachable only by boat, Lovers Key, in recent years, has become a romantic destination for spectacular beachside weddings. The land was donated to the people of Florida so that its beaches and mangrove forests could be preserved for all to enjoy. Hop in a kayak or lounge under an umbrella on the shore. Explore serene canals and lagoons that are favorite grazing spots for manatee and shorebirds. But be ready, you may see the calm, turquoise waters broken by a dolphin’s dorsal fin or by the strike of an osprey’s talons.
The inventor of the light bulb (and alkaline batteries, the talking doll, and more than 1000 other patents) put down roots in Fort Myers in 1885. He was joined 30 years later by his protégé, Henry Ford. The Edison and Ford Winter Estates contain a historical museum and 21 acre botanical garden on the adjacent sites of the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford beside the Caloosahatchee River in Southwestern Florida. It is located at 2350 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida. The 1929 historic landscape is evident throughout the property, including the award-winning Moonlight Garden. The Edison Ford Museum has hundreds of inventions, artifacts and special exhibits. Open seven days a week except on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day."
